If that Mustang in the next lane, a current 2010 model, has a "5.0" badge on the fender, someone's putting you on. On the other hand, beginning later in 2010, as Ford announced today, it's likely to be the real thing, a 2011 Ford Mustang GT packing a 5.0-liter V-8, rated at 412 horsepower. That, to use the vernacular, is a bunch.

In addition to the highly advanced V-8, the 2011 Ford Mustang GT 5.0L has specially tuned electric power assist steering (EPAS). Ford says that in the Mustang GT, the electric power assist steering has a quicker on-center steering response, meaning there's less delay when a driver turns the wheel sharply from dead ahead. The EPAS is also tuned to provide greater effort at highway speeds and reduced exertion needed for low-speed parking maneuvers, says Ford.

The 2011 Ford Mustang GT will be offered as a convertible and Ford worked to increase its structural rigidity, succeeding in raising lateral stiffness by twelve percent compared to the 2010 Mustang convertible. The A-pillars get added rigidity from the use of stiffening foam. A tower-to-tower front strut brace is now standard and various braces have been strengthened, gusseted or added to the Mustang GT convertible's chassis.
